The multimedia installation for the Deutschlandfunk Chamber Music Hall is based on a data collection created by Jan Glisman from continuous time-lapse and over 120 drone recordings, taken during the four-year deconstruction of the Deutsche Welle in Cologne.
Using the technique of photogrammetry, media artist Dmitry Zakharov creates abstract virtual worlds from the images of the building and the surrounding terrain that tell the story of the deconstruction and seem to reach into the molecules of the asbestos.
Sound artist Jiyun Park brings metal plates of the former exterior facade to vibration through bodies of sound transducers; sounds and resonances are created between the plates, which Park combines with multi-channel sounds she composed and the environmental recordings of the deconstruction.
The artists collaborated to develop a 5-meter-high, three-dimensional floating light sculpture that brings the ambivalent process of urban development to life in abstraction as an immersive, multimedia spatial experience. The artist collective consisting of Glisman, Park and Zakharov emerged in early 2020 and creates immersive spatial experiences using multimedia technologies. The coming together of different disciplines allows them to work on themes in a multi-layered way. Glisman is a visual artist, Park a sound artist, and Zakharov a media artist. Their first collaborative project was premiered at the Deutschlandfunk Chamber Music Hall on July 1 and 2, 2022.
The project was shown on the occasion of the finissage of the exhibition "Rückbau Deutsche Welle". This was sponsored by the Landschaftsverband Rheinland (LVR) and the Rodenkirchen district council. It is also supported by Deutschlandradio, DIE WOHNKOMPANIE NRW GmbH and the company BST Becker Sanierungstechnik GmbH.
